JAMMU, May 21: Tibetan spiritual leader The Dalai Lama will visit the Union Territory of Ladakh for nearly a month during summer for which Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA), Hill Development Council Leh and the UT administration have started making arrangements.
“His Holiness The Dalai Lama has confirmed his visit to Ladakh. Now, dates will be finalized in consultations with his Secretariat,” LBA president Thupstan Chhewang told the Excelsior.
Chief Executive Councillor-cum-Chairman Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh Tashi Gyalson also confirmed that The Dalai Lama will visit Ladakh and arrangements are accordingly being made for his visit.
The LBA president and some office bearers have already held two-three round of talks with the Tibetan spiritual leader at Dharamshalla in Himachal Pradesh and during Global Buddhist Summit in New Delhi on his visit to Ladakh.
Chhewang said His Holiness has agreed to visit Ladakh.
“Now, we will work out dates of his visit with his Secretariat. The visit could start either by the end of July or beginning of August,” he added.
It could be a month long visit during which The Dalai Lama will tour several areas in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
Last year also, The Dalai Lama had visited Ladakh for nearly a month and addressed several religious programmes.
The Buddhists in Ladakh are upbeat after getting reports about the upcoming visit of the Tibetan spiritual leader.
The LBA has already started making arrangement for visit of the Dalai Lama.
Besides, the Union Territory administration of Ladakh, the Hill Council Leh has also geared up for making all kind of arrangement for the visit of the Tibetan spiritual leader. However, as per officials, the preparations will formally start when dates and schedule of His Holiness is released.
During his visit last year, the Dalai Lama had addressed various spiritual gatherings and visited places of importance. He had also met the people from all walks of life.
This year, too he is expected to address the gatherings to bless the people.
