JAMMU, Aug 10: Gangyal police under “Operation Sanjeevani” arrested three drug peddlers and recovered 20 kilograms of poppy straw (bhukki) from their possession.
As per police sources, based on reliable information about smuggling of drugs, a team from Gangyal police station raised a check point near Kunjwani Chowk and signaled a car bearing registration number DL2CZ-3597 to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape, but the active cops intercepted the vehicle after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered 20 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested three persons, who have been identified as Bashir Ahmed Bhat, son of Ghulam Ahmed Bhat, Maqsood Ahmed, son of Mohammad Qasim Mir and Ghulam Hussain, son of Ghulam Mohammad, all residents of district Budgam.
During questioning, the accused revealed that they had brought the consignment from Srinagar and were about to sell it among the youth to make them drug addicts in Jammu.
With the arrest of these accused, police achieved a major success to save the youth from becoming drug addicts.
More recoveries are likely to be made in near future as there is every possibility of involvement of more persons from Kashmir region.
A case under FIR Number 58/17 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at police station Gangyal and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Gangyal SI Nayat Ali made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas and SP South Sandeep Choudhary.
