Three arrested in Asaram witness attack case

AHMEDABAD, Mar 17: Three people were arrested by Surat police for allegedly attacking a key witness in the rape case involving self-styled godman Asaram.
According to Surat police, Kishor Godke was picked up late last night, hours after he and his two accomplices attacked Dinesh Chandu Bhavchandani, a witness in the rape case against Asaram, in Vesu area of Surat yesterday.
His interrogation led to the arrest of his two accomplices — Chandrashekhar alias Kiran Palloi and Gopal alias Suresh Patidar this morning.
During the preliminery interrogation, Kishor is said to have told police that he and his accomplices attacked Dinesh as they suspected that he was helping two sisters, who have filed rape complaints against Asaram and his son Narayan Sai.
Dinesh was attacked yesterday when he was going towards his home from somewhere on his two-wheeler in Vesu area of Surat when three motorcycle-borne assailants intercepted his scooter near his home and threw acid on him.
This was the second such attack on a witness in the rape case against Asaram and the third attack in the rape complaints against Asaram and his son Narayan Sai in Surat in the recent past.
Two Surat-based women, both sisters, had lodged a complaint with Surat police later last year against Asaram and his son Narayan Sai, accusing them of rape. The elder sister alleged that Asaram raped her in his Motera Ashram in Ahmedabad, while the younger sister alleged that Narayan Sai repeatedly raped her in his ashrams in Sabarkantha as well as near Surat.
Narayan Sai is lodged in a Surat jail, whereas Asaram is lodged in a jail in Jodhpur in connection with rape case filed by a minor girl in Rajasthan. (UNI)
