Thousands bid tearful adieu to martyr

JAMMU, Sept 2: Mortal remains of Jammu and Kashmir Police Head Constable Kishan Chand, who attained martyrdom in militants attack at Pantha Chowk Srinagar yesterday, were consigned to flames at his native village Challana Sangar in Nagrota Assembly constituency.

He is survived by his wife Satya Devi and four sons. Son of Mangat Ram, 56-year-old Kishan Chand was Head Constable in the 9th Battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Thousands of people from village Challana Sangar and adjoining areas including the relatives of the martyr thronged the village to pay tributes to the martyr.
Rakesh Kumar, son of martyr Kishan Chand, while talking to media persons, said that his father made supreme sacrifice for the sake of the nation. He termed the attack on the cops as cowardly act by the militants and demanded strict action against the terrorists involved in the incident.
“I will also join the police force like my father and serve the nation. If I also die like my father in the line of duty for the nation that will be a proud movement for me and my family members”, he said in response to a question.
Earlier, wreath laying ceremony was held at District Police Lines (DPL) Jammu, where Speaker Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta and Minister for PHE, Flood Control and Irrigation Sham Lal Choudhary paid tributes to the martyr.
Legislators Devender Singh Rana, Sat Sharma and Rajesh Gupta, Divisional Commissioner Jammu MK Bhandari, IGP Jammu Dr  S D  Singh, DIG Ashkoor Wani, Deputy Commissioner Kumar Rajesh Ranjan besides other senior officers of civil and police administration also paid homage to the martyr.
Interacting with media on the sidelines of the ceremony, IGP Jammu said, “JKP is always on the fore front to thwart the nefarious designs of the Pak sponsored terrorists”, adding “we will not allow infiltration from across the border and prevent the militants from carrying out any terror activities”.
