JAMMU, Oct 25: Another breathtaking presentation of Amateur Theatre Group (ATG) “The Chairs” – the play written by Eugene Lonesco under the direction of Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Mushtaq Kak, will be staged in Little Thespian’s National Theatre Festival, Jash-e-Rang in collaboration with Ministry of Culture, Government of India, which is going to be held in Kolkata.
This was informed by Director ATG, Mushtaq Kak in a press statement, here today.
Every year, Little Thespian Group Theatre has been consecutively organizing National Hindi Theatre Festival since 2010 in which prominent plays and personalities of theatre world gather on one platform to give a delightful experience to the audience and also, it is the only Hindi theatre festival organized in Kolkata.
This festival is hosted by Little Thespian Group Theatre with an aim to promote theatre as a key cultural element in the country as well as to bring together and spark a dialogue between theatre lovers from all parts of the country. Each year, the festival follows a different theme and brings to its audience cutting edge theatre productions from all over India, in line with the chosen theme.
“The Chairs” comes to be seen as seminal example of the genre, highlighting loneliness and futility of human existence. The play portrays an elderly couple sets up chairs and greets invisible guests who have come to hear the Old Man’s message to the world. The message is left in the hands of an Orator after the couple commits suicide, but he is deaf-mute and cannot relay it. The actors who will act in the play are Sunil Sharma, Sunaina Kumari and Sandeep Verma. Mohit Chib will design lights, Mohit Puria will hold music department and Ankit Sharma will assist in production.
ATG Director further stated that J&K State has outstanding talent in abundance and the need of the hour is to explore it at various arenas in or outside the State and country. “ATG has been contributing its bit to attract more and more people towards Performing Arts and guiding them so that their talent can be honed”, he added.
