Teenager drowns, 2 consume poison

UDHAMPUR, June 23:  In a tragic incident, a class 10th student of Sia Mehri High School Basantgarh in Udhampur District, drowned while taking bath in Ujh river, here today.
The deceased,  identified as 18 year old Ankesh Kumar,  son of Hukam Singh of village Sia Mehri, was taking bath in the Ujh river along with another friend namely Ranjeet, when he slipped into deep water and drowned.
The incident took place around  4:45 p.m and body of the deceased was fished out after an hour long efforts by the locals and then it was shifted to Basantgarh Hospital for the postmortem.
Police has registered a  case in this connection.
Meanwhile, two separate cases  of suicide attempt by consuming poison were reported in District Hospital Udhampur.
A young housewife, identified as Sushma Devi, wife of Manoj Kumar of Sanari, Udhampur, consumed some poisonous substance under mysterious circumstance and was shifted to District Hospital. Her condition was reported to be stable.
In another case, one Ramesh Kumar (30), son of Makhan of  Ghantwal, Chenani, also consumed poison and was shifted to District Hospital Udhampur where doctors referred him to GMC&H Jammu in view of his critical condition.
