A Tectonic Shift

Dr Sudhanshu Tripathi
Now the much desired change has taken place and Mr Narendra Modi is about to assume the helm of affairs, the expectations of the countrymen are far challenging to be addressed by him because the coffers are almost empty and the prevailing grim scenario in the country needs very much to be done.
The upcoming results of the LokSabha election have clearly shown, perhaps, rarest of the rare democratic phenomenon which was unexpected to even the very wise political pundits who might have relied on the exit polls. Almost all of them were hoping a near likely win for Bharitya Janata Party led coalition withequal likely chances for Congress-I led UPA for forming a new Government at the Centre. But all these projections have gone far astray, clearly indicating a tectonic shift away from the UPA-II Government, signifying a massive mandate in favour of the BJP and its allies wherein the BJP in itself is capable of forming the Government on its own strength. It is particularly significant for the BJP to celebrate its amazingly surprising victory as the entire country as well as the whole world is spell bound over its splendid performance which, in fact, reflects the true victory of democracy because India as a nation has awaken to assert against the hitherto prevailing mis governance, utter-mismanagement and colossalcorruptions at almost all levels of governance under the Congress led UPA. People in general did arose above caste, creed, religion, sect and other narrow bonds to vote in favour of a much desired change for a leader as well as a party which to their eyes can deliver to meet their desires and aspirations. This was, in fact, reflected in the marked hike in voting percentages at the elections which had really surpassed its earlier limits.
To a great extent, the Congress-I had to suffer from anti-incumbency factor but, for the most part, the Party is itself responsible for its mischiefs and misdeeds which got reflected into severalof scams unearthed during its tenure viz. 2G Spectrum,Common WealthGames, Adarsh Housing Society, Coal gate, etc., involving many of its Cabinet Ministers, Chief Ministers and  others party leaders and workers  amounting lakhs of corers of public money which made the entire country shocked that the party having its glorious past is no more that original party in form and contentand has now become a party of corruptions and corrupt leaders because in all cases the Party did try its best to shield and protect its so beleaguered leaders by hook or crook, instead of letting them undergo through the process of law which might have taken its own course. And this mood of people’s disenchantment was wittingly gauged by a prominent social activist and social reformer Anna Hazare, who successfully united the people at large in almost the second Non-Cooperation Movement called as India against Corruptionat Jantar-Manter in New Delhi more than two years ago. Added is his endeavour was Yoga guru Baba Ramdev who has also been stirring the people’s conscience almost side by side. As a result, perhaps, the Congress Party has almost been routed in the entire country with BJP making clean sweep in Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and almost the same in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Goa and opening its account in West Bengal, Karnataka, Tamilnadu in South.
Although the euphoria in favour of  Mr. Narendra Modi and BJP may not be a positive vote because Gujarat model of growth and developmentwas not known to the entire countrymen, yet this tumultuous success of BJP has really converted it into a truly National Party as it was, up till now, known as a Baniya-Jain Party, mostly of upper casts having its tentacles confined into urban areas only, besides depicting several new features. Further, this time, the election appeared to have moved towards presidential election from the established Parliamentary elections because there were only two leaders against each other in the person of Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi. Also, there will be no leader of opposition in the coming Parliament and Mr Modi will enjoy absolute power in the Government.
Also, the youth classhave certainly got up, now, from its slumberand voted en-mass to Mr Modi because they were the worst sufferers in the hitherto mis-governance and they wanted change for their bright and secure future. The prevailing poor economic growth and ever rising daily living costs had also added to their woes.
Thus, the much desired change has taken place and Mr  Narendra Modi is about to assume the helm of affairs, the expectations of the countrymen are far challenging to be addressed by him and his Party because the coffers are almost empty and the prevailing grim scenario in the country needs very much to be done. How much are these going to be addressed by Mr Modi, will only time cantell.
