Addressing a press conference, Team Jammu chairman Zorawar Singh Jamwal described drug abuse as a “dangerous and silent crisis” that has deeply penetrated society, particularly affecting the youth.
He said the rally will begin at 10:30 AM from Royal Estate Banquet at Toph Sherkhania, pass through key markets and bazaars, and culminate at Maharaja Hari Singh Statue near the River Tawi bridge.
Jamwal noted that persistent efforts by civil society have prompted police and security agencies to intensify action against drug networks. However, he stressed that the issue has now evolved into a serious social emergency requiring collective intervention.
“What was once seen as an isolated problem has now spread across towns, villages, and even educational institutions. It threatens the very foundation of our future,” he said.
Calling for a united response, Jamwal emphasized that the fight against drug abuse cannot be handled by a single agency. He urged the Government, law enforcement bodies, educational institutions, civil society, parents, and youth to work together to curb the menace.
He also appealed to the Lieutenant Governor to issue strict directives to ensure that those involved in drug trafficking are not spared under any circumstances. Reiterating Team Jammu’s commitment, Jamwal said the organization will continue its awareness drives, community outreach initiatives, and coordination with authorities to identify and dismantle drug networks.
Highlighting the need for preventive measures, he called for addressing root causes such as unemployment, peer pressure, lack of awareness, and mental health challenges. He further stressed the importance of structured awareness and counseling programs in schools and colleges.
Team Jammu demanded zero tolerance against drug traffickers, asserting its resolve to remain at the forefront of the fight.
Among others present were Rajesh Gupta, Badal Sharma, Rajesh Kapoor and Sunil Singh Raipuria.
