POONCH, Feb 14: All Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh Teachers Federation today organized a one day teacher’s convention, here today, under the chairmanship of district president Darshan Kumar while State general secretary Ratan Kumar was chief guest on the occasion.
In the convention, members discussed the problems being faced by the teaching community and stressed on the need of reforms in Education sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion, Darshan Kumar expressed his concern on the non seriousness of the State Government towards mitigating the problems of teachers. He stressed that the State Government should implement all Central education programmes in Jammu and Kashmir in toto without any alteration.
The other speakers also criticized the State Government for allotting other duties like Mid Day Meal, Census, BLO etc to the teachers and suggested that NGOs or private contractors should be engaged to run the MDM Scheme. They also demanded adjustment of subject wise teachers in Schools, leaving CCE examination system with the School heads which could improve the education standard in the State, timely release of salaries, stoppage of unnecessary intervention of Education officials in Schools and timely visits of Education Director in the districts to listen to the grievances of teaching community
The speakers also suggested various measures, which could be adopted at Zone and district level to mitigate the problems being faced by the teaching community and to bring transparency in the department.
Dr Dharminder Shastri, convener of Poonch unit of AJKLTF, demanded implementation of 7th Pay commission recommendations in Jammu and Kashmir in toto. Ratan Kumar threw light on the activities of the Federation and Akhil Bhartiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh.
Others, who spoke, included Dr Harish Sharma, Anoop Sharma, Yogesh Kumar, Gulnaz Chouhan, Sabar Hussain Bitta, Ashish Gupta, Fayaz Ali and Mrs Vijay Geeta and Gurvinder Singh.
