SRINAGAR, Mar 28: Vice-Chancellor of University of Kashmir, Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi today said teachers should always consider themselves as students and continue to regularly update their skills and knowledge.
Chairing valedictory-cum-certificate distribution function-organized by the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) at the University-Prof Andrabi said: “This is the age of Information Technology and if we (teachers) don’t keep ourselves abreast with latest technological advances in the world of IT, we could become redundant for our students.”
Addressing participants of ‘Refresher Course for Teacher Educators’ and ‘One-Week Short-Term Workshop on Information Technology’, the Vice Chancellor said: “The objective of such refresher courses and workshops is to update teachers about latest developments in the field of IT for their use in the teaching-learning processes.”
Justice (retd.) Bashir A Kirmani, member of State Accountability Commission, emphasized the role of a teacher as a nation-builder. “Education to me is the method which converts an ordinary human being into a more useful or a better human being through the medium of knowledge. However it is the job of a teacher to see what knowledge is to be imparted to students so that in the entire process of learning or gaining knowledge, they become ethically sound and are turned into better human beings and good citizens.”
Prof Gita Singh, Director UGC-HRDC at Delhi University underlined the role of teachers as educators. “The task of teaching and educating has become more challenging than ever given the huge amount of online information available to the students today.”
Director UGC-HRDC at KU, Prof Mohi-ud-din Sangmi delineated the aims and objectives of the two programs.
Prof Mahmoud A Khan Dean and Head Faculty of Education at KU was course coordinator for ‘Refresher Course for Teacher Educators’ and Dr Muheet A Butt Scientist ‘D’ at KU’s Department of Computer Sciences was course coordinator for ‘One Week Short Term Workshop on Information Technology’.
