SRINAGAR, July 24: The Advisor to the Governor KK Sharma today said that people should religiously pay their taxes so that the same could be used for developmental activities.
The Advisor was speaking at a function organized to celebrate 159 Income Tax Day organized by the Department of Income Tax.
The function was attended by Ex-Chief Commission Income Tax and Vice Chairman Waqaf Board J R Sufi, Joint Commissioner Income Tax, members of the Chamber of Commerce, lawyers, academicians, and senior officers.
Highlighting the importance of paying taxes on time, the Advisor said it is important that people pay their taxes on time as the same gets used for various developmental works which include constructions of schools, colleges, hospitals, bridges, macadamization of roads and other like things.
The Advisor said that the concept of taxation finds its root in historical texts also and it has been used as a means for bringing a balance in the society so that equitable development of the society takes place and people enjoy the benefits of development. He said that the people by regularly filling their income tax returns are contributing their bit in building a strong and prosperous nation.
The Advisor added that the practice also increases the revenue receipts of the government which is in turn used for undertaking various flagship programmes for developing of the people.
The VC Waqaf Board also spoke on the occasion and said that taxation is necessary for living an organized and disciplined life based on egalitarian concept where the fruits of development are shared by every section of society, irrespective if it is privileged or otherwise.
He said that the concept of taxation has come a long way since its inception way back in history and asked the people to ensure that they file their tax return regularly.
Joint Commissioner Income Tax while speaking on the occasion gave a historical perspective of the taxation in India. He underlined the significance of taxation in ensuring a developed egalitarian society.
Meanwhile, at Income Tax Office Jammu a grand function was held to celebrate the Income Tax Day. Officers from different parts of Jammu province, Chartered Accountants and prominent businessmen took part in the celebrations.
On the occasion, the department organized painting competition of the students drawn from different Government schools and even distributed uniform and gifts among the meritorious as well as needy students.
