Tawi Barrage Project

Readers may recall about termination of contract allotted to one M/s GVR Infra Projects Limited by the Jammu and Kashmir Government in connection with execution of River Tawi Gated Barrage Project as a result of which the work on the project had been stopped. Now, on account of Madras High Court vacating the interim injunction, decks stand cleared for floating of fresh tenders by the State Government for getting the left over work completed on this project. We have reliably learnt that the project would be fully completed by the month of May 2019.
It is further learnt that interim injunction regarding invocation of bank guarantees shall stay till further orders from the Madras High Court. It is fairly believed , going by how the case further is argued in the next hearings that the interim injunction on bank guarantees too could be hopefully got vacated. We wish the project, already having undergone a trail of hiccups but somehow completed up to 85 percent, could now be racing towards completion as it has significant importance from the tourism angle. The project comprises 31 gates, 11 in Badi Tawi and 20 in Nikki Tawi and had been approved at an estimated cost of Rs.70 crores but unfortunately has missed various deadlines mainly because of the dilly dallying approach of GVR Infra Company.
