SRINAGAR: CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami today demanded a ban on fresh construction activity at Sonamarg tourist spot on Srinagar-Leh National Highway, saying the ecologically-fragile place has been turned into a “concrete jungle”.
Tarigami raised the issue of alleged violation of rules and illegal constructions at Sonamarg tourist spot, during the Question Hour when the Legislative Assembly was discussing the funds spent by Jammu and Kashmir Government to promote tourism.
“Sonamarg has been turned into a concrete jungle. Government in the past had ordered inquiry which has been completed but no action has been taken on the recommendations made in the report,” he said.
“The fresh constructions should be stopped forthwith at the ecologically fragile place,” he added. (AGENCIES)
