REASI, Sept 2: Talwara migrants staged a massive protest here today demanding relief to them as per Supreme Court judgment and continuous power and water supply.
A large number of these militancy-affected migrants assembled at Talwara and took out a protest march, which passed through Zero Morh, Chenab Bridge, Seela and culminated at DC office Reasi.
The protest was lead by JKNPP president and ex MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia. They raised slogans for implementation of Supreme Court direction to the Government of India to pay them (Talwara migrants) the cash relief at par with the Kashmiri migrants.
Addressing the protesting migrants, Mankotia accused the Coalition Government in J&K of ignoring Jammu migrants. “The State Government is forcing the Talwara migrants to starve and die in distress only because they are from Jammu Pradesh,” he alleged and reminded that Supreme Court in July 2007 had directed the Central Government as well as State to pay Rs 21 crore to the Jammu migrants as arrears because they had not been provided any relief since 2004.
Mankotia also said that the power and water supply to the Talwara migrants colony was blocked by the administration. He warned the administration and State Government to provide proper basic facilities to Talwara migrants or be ready to face massive protest. The BJP Government is providing everything to Kashmir including AIIMS and other projects whereas Jammu as well as its people are getting a step motherly treatment, he alleged.
