Talks within Constitution, says Khanna

SRINAGAR, June 24: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national vice president, Avinash Rai Khanna, today said that people who are ready to talk within the Constitution of India are welcome anytime for dialogue but clarified that it is not a pre-condition.
Khanna made these remarks during a press conference here today. His statement has come days after the chairman of Hurriyat Conference(M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that they were ready for talks.

He said that Hurriyat leaders are residents of Jammu and Kashmir and they are most welcome to talk. “BJP is open for talks and Hurriyat leaders are own people not aliens, they are the residents of J&K so they are most welcome to talk to us including Prime Minister Narendra Modi but within the ambit of Indian Constitution. Dialogue in violation of Constitution won’t be allowed,” Khanna said.
However, the BJP leader didn’t clear whether BJP has started any back-channel talks with the Hurriyat Conference for dialogue. “Talks within the ambit of Constitution are not a condition. As a citizen, any person is duty bound to respect the Constitution,” he said.
The BJP leader said Modi was gradually creating a peaceful atmosphere in Kashmir so that the trust and the confidence of everybody is won. Stating that Prime Minister has floated the idea of “Sab Ka Vishwas”, Khanna said that its time to win the confidence of everybody as that will be the tribute to the mass mandate people of India have given to the BJP.
The BJP leader also reviewed the functioning of the party stating that it eyes on increasing the 20 per cent more members to its kitty.
“We will be launching a membership drive form July 6 across country,” Khanna said, adding that there will be every effort to engage more and more people to the party fold.
