SRINAGAR, June 24: Former Ministers, legislators and senior leaders of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from south Kashmir today congregated to discuss and devise party’s strategy for the forthcoming State elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
Chaired by PDP vice president Abdul Rahman Veeri, the meeting held threadbare discussions over the measures that are needed to be taken to ensure party’s impressive performance in the coming State elections.
Veeri, while addressing the participants of the meeting, underlined the need for the door- to- door campaigns, strategising party’s reach out programme and also laid emphasis on closer coordination between the party functionaries, activists and supporters.
Asserting that the main aim and objective of the PDP is to guarantee peace and stability in the State, Veeri said that the party’s earnest efforts in making the Jammu and Kashmir a hub of peace and tranquility could be gauged by the fact that on all fronts, the PDP Government in the State empowered youth and was successful in withdrawing more than twelve thousand FIRs registered against the youngsters.
Veeri said that in spite of the medley of the internal troubles within the coalition, the PDP led Government always stood at the forefront to ensure that the State’s interests aren’t bartered at any cost.
The PDP leaders, who took part in this important meet, included Mohammad Khalil Bandh, Zahoor Ahmad Mir, Abdul Gaffar Sofi, Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, Zafar Manhas, Syed Farooq Andrabi, Abdul Raheem Rather, Abdul Majeed Padder, Peerzada Mansoor Hussain Soharwardy, Aijaz Ahmad Mir, Waheed-ur-Rahman Parra, Sheikh Javaid and several others.
The leaders also observed that PDP’s agenda is the only practical way out to get Kashmir out of troubled times that the State is in. They added that the PDP always strived for the resolution of the problems through peace and empowerment of people. “Whether we were in opposition or in Government, we have established the idea of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed of having a party with peace, dialogue and end of repressive measures as a prime agenda. It is because of the change that PDP brought from 2002 and gave people the confidence to protect their rights that people at present resist atrocities and raise their voices for the genuine concerns in a fearless manner,” the leaders said.
