Srinagar, Apr 16: Residents from Talagam area of Pattan in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district today protested against the Power Development Department for their failure to install the newly sanctioned electrical transformer in their area.
The protesting residents assembled at Press Enclave here and alleged that the political interference along with the callous attitude of the concerned department has delayed the process of installment. The protestors said four months back the department sanctioned a new electrical transformer for their area but authorities’ failure to install it has left the whole area into despair.
“A few households who enjoy the political backing are hindering the process for some unknown reasons. We smell a rat in the whole process,” Mushtaq Ahmad, a local said, adding they have repeatedly raised the issue with the concerned authorities but to no avail.
Another protestor, Ashiq Hussian, a student of 12th class student, lamented that their studies are badly affected due to non-installment of the transformer. “It is very difficult to study under a very low voltage in the evening. Our studies are taking a hit. We have to finish our studies before dusk and restart after dawn. We are losing our precious time due to the callousness of the department,” he said.
