SRINAGAR, July 2: Former Minister and member AICC Abdul Gani Vakil has criticized the State Government for adopting biased approach in tackling the corruption menace in the State.
In a press statement, Mr Vakil said no doubt Government’s decision to sack the corrupt officials is a welcome step but it is a mere eyewash and nothing else because corrupt politicians and some top tainted bureaucrats are still enjoying immunity in respect of any action against them.
He said that the failures of the Government are grave and imbalances in the unnatural alliance of PDP-BJP has put the State machinery in a state of confusion and to divert the attention of the common masses, decision to sack the corrupt officers and officials has been taken.
Former Minister said that taking action against middle level officers or lower officials can not serve the purpose in full and if Government is serious in eradication of corruption from the system and wants to get its writ prevailed, big fishes, who have managed to obtain stay orders from the High Court on the proceedings initiated by Accountability Commission and Vigilance Organization against them, needs to be dealt with sternly. Mr Vakil reiterated his demand that Government must follow the foot steps of G N Azad in dealing with the corrupt elements and must confiscate their all types of disproportionate assets without any delay.
Mr Vakil appealed the Government to strengthen and fully empower the State Accountability Commission and other such institutions in the State so that the menace of corruption is eradicated and he also urged the Government to constitute an Independent Commission in this behalf.
