JAMMU, Feb 4: Describing a Vigilance case against him as political witch hunting and a deep- rooted conspiracy to defame him, former Minister and senior Congress leader Taj Mohi-ud-Din has said that he would take legal course to counter it.
Addressing a press conference at Press Club here today, Taj Mohi-ud-Din alleged that State Vigilance Organisation is being used as tool by some people for vested interests. He said, “If Vigilance officials are holding an inquiry regarding allegations of any forest land in my possession, they should go ahead and prove the case in the court of law. But when nothing could be proved against him now they have started raising allegations that mutations and papers were forged or tempered by the revenue officials. Any if they have done anything wrong take action against them. Where do I come in to the picture,” Taj maintained.
The Congress leader pointed out that politicising the case and sending it for publication in the selective media houses, is purely a defamatory act on the part of some Vigilance officials. He said that piece of land in question at Shopian was purchased by him in 1970 from one Gulla Bhat who had handed over the possession of this land at the time of purchase. Mr Taj said when militancy broke out in 1990 in Kashmir valley, like all other politicians, he also left the Valley and stayed at Jammu up to 1994. During his stay in Jammu, he got the papers of the said land duly completed in all respect after following the procedure under Section 4 and Section 8 of Agrarian reforms Act, which were personally delivered by Late Gulla Bhat at Jammu.
The former Minister wondered that nobody raised an issue during all these 40 years ever since he bought this land. He said that he felt sorry for those people who were earlier saying that it was forest land and now are saying it is not forest land. He hoped that the same people will say in future that the said land transaction is transparent and followed due process of law. Mr Taj regretted that before framing an opinion, the Vigilance Organization did not speak to him even once or to any villager in the area. Some people have tried to malign his image and he is open to taken legal course in this regard.
