Taj, Shabir kick off pulse polio immunization programme

JAMMU, Jan 20: Like other parts of country, the pulse polio immunization campaign was today launched in the State also with Ministers of Medical Education, Youth Service and Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-Din and Minister of State for Health, Shabir Ahmed Khan launching the campaign by administering pulse polio drops to new born babies and other infants at SMGS Hospital, Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar and Railway Station here respectively.
Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-Din this morning kicked off the pulse polio immunization programme at SMGS hospital Jammu by administering two anti polio drops to a young baby.
Principal GMC, Jammu, Dr. Anece Chowdhary, Medical Superintendent SMGS, Dr. Dara Singh and other faculty besides large number of parents of the young kids were present on the occasion.
Minister of State for Health, Shabir Ahmed Khan on Sunday launched round of pulse polio immunization campaign by administering pulse polio drops to a new born child and other infants at Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar and Railway Station, Jammu.
The Minister also visited various booths including DH Samba, SDHs Vijaypur and Hiranagar and monitored the pulse polio immunization campaign.
Around 1903297 children are being administered pulse polio drops through 11,224 booths established all over the State in the first phase of the campaign, Mr. Shabir said.
The Health Minister said 45672 trained personnel have been deployed to man the booths and hold a door-to-door campaign with 284 mobile and 276 transit teams. He said for the purpose, 2555100 pulse polio doses (vaccines) have been kept available at the hospitals and designated booths in both the divisions of the State.
He was accompanied by Director Health Services Dr. Madhu Khullar, Director Family Welfare & RCH Immunization,J&K, Dr. Kuldeep Kesar, Dr. Baldev Raj Sharma, Dy. Director Health Services (HQ), Chief Medical Officer Dr. Javed Chib and other Officers of the department. Great enthusiasm was seen among the people for immunization of their children. Medical Superintendent of Gandhi Nagar, Hospital Dr Ramesh Gupta coordinated the programme at Gandhi Nagar Hospital.
As per preliminary reports received from the concerned Chief Medical Officers of the Districts 78.2 % Children were immunized on the Polio Booths in Jammu Division on the first round of the campaign today.
For next two days on 21.01.2013 and 22.01.2013 the door to door Pulse Polio Immunization shall continue in the whole Division and efforts will be made to achieve 100% immunization of the Children in Jammu Division.
The 1st round of Nationwide Pulse Polio Programme from 20th to 22nd of January 2013 for the children between 0-5 years of age started in Doda today, District Development Commissioner Doda Mr. Farooq Ahmed Khan kick started the programme at New District Hospital Doda by administering Polio drops to the children.
Chief Medical Officer Doda besides Doctors and senior functionaries of the Health Department were present in the programme.
District Development Commissioner Poonch Ajeet Kumar Sahoo kick started PPI campaign by administering pulse polio drops to children at District Hospital Poonch today.
Chief Medical Officer Vijay Kumar Sahni informed that 425 PPI Centre have been set up in the district covering forward and remote areas to ensure cent-per-cent administration of anti- polio drops to about 68464 children. As many as 1660 employees of Health, ICDS and of Education Department are engaged to administer polio drop.
Commandant 6th Battalion CRPF Sunil Kumar in presence of Deputy CMO Reasi Dr. K. C. Dogra and BMO Katra Dr. Gopal Dutt inaugurated Ist round of pulse polio immunization.
BMO Katra informed that besides covering local population, special transits booth and mobile team are engage to cover the children of visiting pilgrims.
Pulse Polio immunization was held at Purmandal Block also.
Giving details about the programme Dr. D.K. Manyal Block Medical Officer Purmandal said that a total of 14189 children are to be immunized in this campaign for which 88 booths have been established & 380 workers are deployed in Block Purmandal.
Former Minister and MLA Vijaypur, Surjit Singh Slathia launched pulse polio campaign at Accidental Hospital Vijaypur. Lions Club president, Shiv Dev Singh Slathia and Vijay Grover were also present on the occasion.
