JAMMU, Dec 3: State Vigilance Organization (SVO) today presented challan in the court of Special Judge Anticorruption, Jammu against Jagjeevan Lal, former Minister in the Disproportionate Assets case.
The challan was presented on the directions issued by the Division Bench of State High Court in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL).
According to the Vigilance case, Jagjeevan Lal had amassed huge assets disproportionate to his known sources of income when he was MLA and Minister. He also allegedly used cement meant for construction of Charayra Panhal canal in the construction of his house. Moreover, by abusing his official position as Minister he got road constructed up to his house in Reasi tehsil through PWD, which was otherwise of no use for the general public.
Jagjeevan Lal got elected as MLA from Reasi Assembly segment in the year 1983 and was subsequently inducted as Minister. He remained Minister from 1983 to 1986.
