Suspension of SMVDU faculty recommended for sexual harassment

JAMMU, Jan 25: Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) in a sexual harassment case at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University has recommended suspension of the accused faculty member and compensation of Rs five lakh to the victim scholar.
Based on the evidences collected and observations recorded in the case, the committee has recommended that Dr Hari Govind Mishra, Associate Professor in the School of Business, may be suspended with immediate effect and the matter may be considered by Executive Council of the university for taking further course of action.
Besides, the committee has also recommended disciplinary action against Madhu Pandita, Caretaker of the Vaishnavi Hostel; Mithun Jamwal, Assistant Security Officer, a Ph D scholar from School of Business and several others, who were found to have abetted to the acts, which were in violation of the University Rules and Policies.
In line with the punishment and compensation rules in place under ICC, the committee has also recommended than a compensation amount of Rs 5 lakh should have to be paid by the accused Associate Professor to the victim.
It may be recalled that the matter of sexual harassment in SMVDU had come to light in September last after a complaint in this regard was lodged by the victim scholar.
