SRINAGAR, July 29: Former Minister and suspended Congress leader Gulchain Singh Charak, today said that he had written to party president, Sonia Gandhi that the recently formed JKPCC should be reconstituted “so that corrupt, inexperienced and unpopular Congress leaders are dropped” from the new body.
Addressing a news conference here, the former minister said that on July 10 he had written to Sonia that the newly formed JKPCC should be immediately disbanded otherwise his letter should be treated his resignation.
“I have categorically told Sonia Gandhi ji that newly formed JKPCC team including its president Ghulam Ahmad Mir is inexperienced. It should be reconstituted. Otherwise his letter should be treated as his resignation from the party’s basic membership,” he told reporters.
Alleging that most of the newly appointed members are involved in serious charges of corruption and other scandals and their selection in JKPCC has sent a wrong signal to grass root Congress workers of the state. “If we have to save the Congress party in Jammu and Kashmir, then Sonia Ji has to take this decision and should include only those leaders in JKPCC which would uplift the moral of Congress men in the State,” he said.
Charak also said that most of newly appointed members have no public faith and Congress president has been mislead by some leaders within the party while electing the new JKPCC team. In case, he said, the correction is not made, it would be disastrous for the Congress party in the days to come.
“Instead, “I came to know from the media reports that I have been suspended from the party. I have not done anything against party interests,” he said, adding, that the he is waiting for the response of Congress president and would then take his decision.
