MUMBAI, May 31: About 63 per cent Indians polled have a dedicated vacation fund to fulfill their holiday dreams, while others depend on sources like credit card and loan among others, said a survey.
For a free vacation, 48 per cent Indians are ready to quit smoking for a year, while 42 per cent are ready to quit junk food for one year, according to ‘Summer Trend Report 2015’.
Thirty per cent are ready to bow down to the nagging of their spouses to start a family and have kids for a free vacation, 11 per cent ready to sacrifice sex for six months in exchange for a free vacation and 22 per cent ready to turn vegan for a free vacation, the survey said.
However, no one wants to quit on their job, hobby, favourite gadgets or cut off from their best friends for the same, it said.
The study was conducted on behalf of travel services firm Expedia by Access Media International, a globally integrated strategic insights consulting firm.
“About 63 per cent Indians have a dedicated vacation fund while 37 per cent are planning to fund it through other sources like credit card, debit card, vacation loan, among others,” Expedia Managing Director, Asia, Vikram Malhi said quoting ‘Summer Trend Report 2015’.
This survey was conducted online from April 15 to May 12, 2015 across Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune. As many as 520 employed adults aged 18 years of age and older took part in the survey.
The survey revealed that Puneiites use plastic money the most (60 per cent), followed by Mumbai (53 per cent) and Delhi (51 per cent).
Hyderabadis, it found, lead in taking holiday loans to fund their vacation (21 per cent) closely followed by Delhi and Pune (20 per cent).
While Bangalorians and Mumbaiites shy away from borrowing money from friends and family, Puneiites are most comfortable in borrowing (7 per cent). Delhiites top the list in emotionally blackmailing parents or in-laws to fund their vacation (4 per cent), it added.
Post vacation, 27 per cent Indians hate to catch up on their office work or emails post vacation, 21 per cent hate the huge credit card statement and 14 per cent hate to clean up their house and do dirty laundry, it said.
About 4 per cent travellers start planning the day they return from holiday, 14 per cent plan when they sit back and look at photos, 22 per cent start within a month and 26 per cent after about 6 months, it said. (PTI)
