Sukhnandan urges Govt to grant ownership rights to Chamb refugees

JAMMU, May 2: A deputation of residents from Makwal camp, led by former Minister Sukhnandan Choudhary, today met Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar and demanded ownership rights for refugees of the Chamb sector displaced during the Indo-Pak wars of 1965 and 1971.
The deputation submitted a memorandum highlighting that though the Central Government had sanctioned ownership rights for these families, the orders have not been implemented on the ground by the Revenue Department.
Choudhary said the delay has kept thousands of families in uncertainty for decades and urged the administration to act without further delay.
He said in the absence of land ownership documents, many families are unable to avail benefits of welfare schemes, financial assistance and institutional loans, including agriculture-related loans.
The deputation also said several eligible families are being left out of PM Kisan benefits as land ownership is a key condition.
They urged the administration to take immediate steps to resolve the issue and provide relief to the affected families.
The Divisional Commissioner assured the deputation that the matter would be examined and appropriate action taken at the earliest.
