JAMMU, June 6: While condemning discriminatory treatment of the Government, Sikh United Front (SUF), J&K, has demanded immediate release of the Sikh prisoners, who have completed their sentence.
A meeting of the SUF was held here under the Chairmanship of Sudershan Singh Wazir, in which the issues of the Sikh community were highlighted and an appeal was made to the Union Government, especially the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, to look into these demands.
While addressing the meeting, Wazir said that Sikhs have historically been pillars of Indian society and turned saviours of the masses in the country. They waged war against the Mughal rulers and even several Sikh Gurus laid down their lives for the cause of humanity and the religion.
Wazir appealed to the Government, especially to the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah to release all those Sikh prisoners who have completed their sentence and are still languishing in jails which is unwarranted, uncalled for and highly objectionable. This also raises a question mark on the working of the judicial system of the country, he remarked.
“We, the Sikh community of India and abroad, look upon the secular credentials of the present government and are sure that the present government will take a positive view on this matter,” Wazir added.
Prominent among those present in the meeting included- Darbinder Singh (SAD), Rajinder Singh (SAD), Ravinder Singh (SAD) Kuldeep Kour (IAD), Mohinder Singh (BKNSS), Kulwant Singh, Charan Singh Bali, Harpreet Singh Chhotu (YAD) and others.
