Students take out protest rally to extend support to sexual assault victim

LEH, July 4: Extending their support to the sexual assault victim, various students studying in Jammu, Chandigarh, Delhi and other cities of the country took out massive peace protest rally under the banner of All Ladakh Student Association (ALSA) here today.
The rally commenced from Leh Gate and culminated at Leh Market. Holding placard and raising slogans, the students expressed their anguish towards sexual assault accused Tsewang Thinles for misusing his power to exploit the innocent girl.
Hill Council Chairman Gyal P Wangyal, Executive Councillors, Councillors and some political party leaders were also present during the protest rally.
Addressing a huge gathering at Leh market, Ladakh Student Welfare Society Delhi President Jigmet Paljor said that the crime is committed by an individual and it should dragged the name of organization he was working for. He also expressed his concern over some society women organization which often took out protest rally over such cases but fails to show their support to the student at this hour.
Appreciating the brave girl for coming out in open to register the case, a student leader and social activist Dechen Dolkar said that there might be many other students in the crowd who might fear to come out in open to report such cases and its high time all should come out to expose such crimes.
Sharing her plight she claimed that she too was sexually assaulted by someone in the past but fear of society forced her to stay quite but now it’s high time that all such case must be reported to expose the culprits, said Dechen.
Ladakh Student Association Chandigarh President Thinles Nurbo said that all students will stand united to show their support to the victims and student will not tolerate such crimes in future.
While responding to media query LEAF President Phuntsog Stobgyal said that student decided to take out a protest rally so that number of such cases happening in the society can come out to report to the public. He also expressed his anguish over merchant association failing to shutdown the shops inspite of their request.
Another Student leader Thardot also spoke on the occasion.
Meanwhile, District Police was seen on high alert during the rally to avoid untoward incident.
