MENDHAR, Dec 18: Students of Class 11th and 12th from Govt Boys Higher Secondary School Mendhar held massive protest demonstration at SDM’s office and later took out a rally in the main bazaar and blocked Jammu-Mendhar road for over two hours today.
They were protesting against the shortage of staff in the Higher Secondary School. The students of 11th and 12th, boycotted their classes at around 10. 30 am and then moved out on the main road. They later marched towards Tehsil complex and held demonstration outside SDM’s office. No senior officer was available in the complex at that time. These boys said that there was no Chemistry lecturer in the Higher Secondary School for the last one year and authorities have failed to provide them teacher, while their exams are drawing nearer and their career was at stake. The Education Officers were hardly bothered over the issue. They also alleged that Laboratory remains closed and no practicals are allowed to perform to the students by the staff concerned.
They continued their protest and shouted slogans against School Education Minister,  Director School Education Jammu, CEO Poonch and the SDM. Later, SDM reached there and pacified the boys and asked them to return to their school.
The agitating boys then moved towards main road and raised barricades. They blocked the movement of traffic and started protest dharna on Jammu-Mendhar road. After staging protest for about two hours, the SDPO and SDM managed to convince the boys by giving assurance and traffic was restored at around 12.30 pm. They warned that if teacher was not provided by Friday, they will intensify their strike.
