UDHAMPUR, Apr 25: Locales and students of Primary School Chai, Loudhra, Madyal and Middle School of Simnigali today held a strong protest demonstration against Power Development Department (PDD) for its failure to provide electricity supply to these villages even after 68 years of independence.
Shouting slogans, the protesting students and their parents highlighted their plight due to non-availability of electricity in their villages.
About 400 families of two Panchayat in block Panchari of district Udhampur are still without electricity. The areas include Galiote, Upper Galiote, and Chaka Ganan in Galiote panchayat and Chai Loudhra, Madyal, Simnigali, Sansari villages of Badhota Panchayat.
According to the locals, in 2011, electric polls, transformers and other material were installed in Chai Loudhra, Madyal, Simnigali but even after five years, there has been no further progress.
Chamel Singh, X-En, Elect, (EM&RE) Udhampur, said that the scheme (RGGVY) for rural electrification could not be fully implemented because of no funding after 2010. However  the Government of India has launched a fresh scheme and these villages will be electrified soon, he added.
