RAMBAN, Dec 15: The students of Government Degree College (GDC) staged a protest against the shortage of staff in their college and also blocked the vehicular movement on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, here today.
The protesting students including girls led by Surinder Singh, President, National Panthers Party Students Union marched from college to Karol and blocked Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
The protesters flayed the Government for not providing teaching staff and basic facilities to the college. They added that most of the posts of teachers in their college are vacant for the past several years, but Government failed to take any measure to save the future of the students.
The precious time of students is being wasted owing to shortage of teachers, they said, adding that the most of the students comes from remote and far-flung areas but their future is diminishing owing to shortage of teachers.
The protesting students warned that they will launch protest rallies if the vacant posts are not filled as early as possible.
After getting information, Tehsildar Ramban Gurpreet Singh, DySP Headquarters Ramban Mohammad Rafiq and College Principal Yudhvir Singh rushed to the spot and pacified the protesting students assuring them to take up the matter with the higher authorities.
On the assurance, the protesting students dispersed and the vehicular movement was restored on the national highway.
