Scores of students from various colleges assembled at Partap Park today holding placards like ‘KU is a business hub’, ‘We want justice’, ‘KU is laziest university in the world’, ’50 percent deduction in syllabus’, ‘Semester system a big failure’ etc and raised slogans against the varsity.
The protesters were demanding deduction of 50 percent syllabus for upcoming jointly held 5th and 6th semester examination and conduct of backlog examination for other semesters.
Muheet, a 2015 batch undergraduate student said that their Bachelors degree was supposed to be completed in October last year but due to mismanagement of the varsity, the degree was delayed. “Due to callous approach of the varsity, our semester exams were never conducted on time and the results were also not declared on time,” he said
The protesters accused Kashmir University of playing with their future by not reducing the syllabus. “Our 4th semester examination was held in December last year and the 5th semester started in Feb this year. We have been notified that the joint examination of 5th and 6th semester will be held in June. How can we complete the syllabus of two semesters in four months? This is sheer injustice with us,” a student said.
The students also demanded that the backlog examination of previous semesters should be conducted immediately.
