KARGIL, May 9: Due to lack of teaching staff, the students of Government Higher Secondary School Barsoo held protest against district administration.
The students along with Councillors of Barsoo and Thasgam Sheikh Ansari and Abdul Rahim traveled almost 50 kilometers from school to DC Office Kargil to register their protest and anger against stepmother treatment of district administration with the school students.
Talking to media persons, a student said, “We have no other options to carry on our studies in this school but unfortunately we have no teaching staff in our school”. She said that the students in other parts of district have private tuition option or they have internet access to study, but our area being far flung has no such facilities.
“Government Higher Secondary School Barsoo is the only school in Barsoo block from Thasgam to Itchu with a population of over ten thousand souls and two council constituencies. Hundreds of students in the area prefer to carry on their students in Government Higher Secondary School Sankoo or at district headquarters due to lack of teaching staff and other facilities in GHSS Barsoo”, Councillors said.
They added that this is not for the first time that this school is protesting for lack of teaching staff at district headquarters but this type of protests took place every year. “Every time these students were assured that their issue will be redressed, but nothing has been done”, they stated.
Meanwhile, DC Kargil Baseer-ul-Haq Chowdhary has assured the students to fill up the vacant posts of the teachers soon after lifting of Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
On the assurance, the protestors dispersed.
