KATHUA, Feb 17: A 9th-grade student from Churamani Sanskrit Vidyalaya, Basohli, tragically died under mysterious circumstances in the school hostel on Thursday evening.
The deceased has been identified as 16-year-old Sundhan Sharma, son of Surinder Sharma, a resident of Chadwal, Hiranagar.
Upon receiving the news, the family rushed to Basohli and had the body transferred to GMC Kathua for a post-mortem.
They raised concerns over the mysterious nature of the death and demanded a thorough investigation, suspecting foul play.
According to the agitating family members, the body was found in the hostel bathroom with visible wounds on the neck and arms, raising doubts of potential murder.
Deceased’s uncle Rajesh Kumar and family member Semant Sharma, claimed that the student had been facing depression and harassment at school.
They alleged that the school management had not provided any explanation regarding the cause of his death and called for a fair and transparent investigation.
Kathua DSP Manjeet Singh visited GMC Kathua to meet with the grieving family and assured them that a fair inquiry would be conducted.
The body was later handed over to the family for the final rites.
The family, however, continued to demand a CBI inquiry to get to the bottom of the incident.
