Strike paralyses life in Kashmir

Excelsior Correspondent
SRINAGAR, Aug 10: Normal life was disrupted in Kashmir Valley today due to a strike called by Hurriyat Conference to protest against the clashes in Kishtwar district.
Shops, business establishments and petrol pumps remained closed, while Government offices and banks witnessed thin attendance.
Though public transport was off the roads, private cars and auto rickshaws were seen plying.
Geelani had termed the situation in Kishtwar town as extremely grave and had appealed for a general strike against the biased approach of the State administration in dealing with the situation in Kishtwar.
In view of any clashes during the strike, police and para-military Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was heavily deployed in Srinagar and other sensitive places across Kashmir.
Police and CRPF were seeing frisking people and checking vehicles. However, no untoward incident was reported during the strike.
