JAMMU, Aug 5: Former Union Minister and Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Prof Chaman Lal Gupta has asked the ruling leaders to stop playing politics over the miseries of the people caused by natural calamities including earthquakes, excessive rains, floods and other problems.
Referring to the repeated tremors in the erstwhile Doda district and some other areas, Prof Gupta said that over two months have passed that the people of these areas are faced with an alarming situation. There have been over a score of earthquakes. Because of tremors thousands of houses have been damaged including the educational institutions. But it is strange that little sincerity has been there on part of the Government leaders to provide succor to the suffering masses who are faced with sleepless nights and are afraid of staying at their palaces, he added.
Around two months back, it was given that the Congress youth leader Rahul Gandhi would visit Doda areas and announce a package for the sufferers, Prof Gupta pointed out and regretted that neither the Rahul Gandhi has come to see the plight of the people nor any relief has been provided.
Prof Gupta also expressed his serious concern over the chaotic conditions created by the excessive rains coupled with the floods resulting in breaches on the roads and bridges due to which many areas have been cut off but little efforts are there to attend to the problems facing the people.
