Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘No penalty fixed on violators as Sonamarg turns into concrete jungle’ DE July 26.
The Government must ensure that no illegal structure comes up in tourist places of the State. Those who violate rules should be dealt sternly according to rules. In case leniency is observed the encroachers may wreak havoc on ecology and environment of the place. With the result, the place may lose its virginity and charm which usually attracts tourists from far and wide. Though there is need to build infrastructure at such places to provide facilities to tourists, but it should not be done at the cost of environment. Whatever infrastructure is to be build should be done in a planned manner after taking all aspects-religious, cultural environmental into consideration. It may not be out of place to mention here that the tourism is the mainstay of State’s economy and it should be groomed properly.
Yours etc…
