Stones pelted at J&K Ministers cavalcade in Poonch

JAMMU: Two persons including a police constable got injured when a group of people annoyed over State Minister for Road and Building Altaf Bukhari’s refusal to visit far flung area, pelted stones at his cavalcade in Poonch district.

“The Minister had gone to Mendhar tehsil this afternoon to lay foundation of a road and inaugurate Chajla Bridge, which according to the locals was being inaugurated for the third time,” an eye witness here said.

He said the Chhajjla Bridge was earlier inaugurated by the National Conference leader Javed Mustafa and second time by the PDP’s former MLA Sardar Rafiq Hussain while the same was being inaugurated today by Mr Altaf Bukhari.

“Locals questioned re-inauguration of the bridge and asked the Minister to visit the far flung areas of the district where the condition of the road is worst,” they said. However, when the Minister refused to visit the locations, angry crowd raised slogans against him and also pelted stones at his cavalcade.    “The minister has been rescued from the spot but his driver namely Mohammad Rafi and a constable, who is also the Private Security Officer of a senior police officer, sustained injuries in the stone pelting,” a police official here said.
