Srinagar, Feb 23: All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) Chairman and senior leader of Apni Party Jagmohan Singh Raina today asked the members of the Sikh community to stay away from the delimitation exercise which is currently on.
“…Since no reservation has been kept for minorities of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir up to this date,” he said in a statement issued here while justifying the appeal that he made.
APSCC Chairman said that there is no fun in meeting the members of the Delimitation Commission given the fact that the people at the helm are indifferent towards the issues of minorities in Jammu & Kashmir.
“The Delimitation Commission would lose its credibility if the minorities are not taken on board,” he said.
“They should take part in the process only when some seats are reserved for minorities in the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly. The Central Government and Delimitation Commission should take the minorities into confidence otherwise the exercise would be meaningless,” he said.
The Apni Party leader said that many constituencies in both the Kashmir and Jammu divisions have a huge number of Sikh voters and they hold the key to the fate of politicians who fight elections from such constituencies.
He said that in the past, they have been demanding reservation in assembly segments, but the demand was never considered by political parties and the Delimitation Commission.
