Statehood Vs UT

Sir,
This has reference to the statement issued here today has strongly criticised the statement of the Union Home Minister Amit Shah when he claimed while interacting with the probationers of the 2018 batch of the Indian Police service at Delhi that “Jammu and Kashmir will get back State hood once situation normalises”. On the one hand he said that J&K would not remain Union Territory forever and the Statehood to it would be restored once the security situation is improved there and at the same time he informs the probationers that ” not a single bullet has been fired or not a single person has died ” after the abrogation of the special status given to J&K Under Article 370 and its division into two UTs on August 5.
These are two self contradictory statements of the Union Home Minister. According to Mr Shah, misuse of the Article 370 is the root cause of the cross border terrorism, in that case efforts should have been taken by the Government to stop the cause in stead of abrogation of the Article under which people of the state were enjoying certain privileges. It is strange that despite the curfew like restrictions in the valley and snapping of the Internet services in the state, for more than two months Government claims that situation is peaceful. It is not understood why the Central Government is keeping the people in darkness which is not in the larger interests of the country.
The utmost need of the hour is to release all political leaders of the State whose role matters in bringing normalcy in the state, like Dr Farooq Abdullah who is the national level towering leader and imposing PSA for his detention has no relevance in the present context because Article 19 of the constitution guarantees freedom of speech and expression as fundamental right, even Supreme Court in 2018 had said that “”dissent is the safety valve of a democracy. If dissent is not allowed, then the pressure cooker may burst.” The laws should not be used recklessly, indiscriminately, punitively and purposefully against anybody or any institution that disagrees with the ruling establishment. This deliberate misuse and looking all dissent as anti national is sign of an authoritarian state.
