Srinagar, Mar 14: The famed Tulip Garden in Kashmir where around 3 lakh Tulips are on bloom has failed to open due to bureaucratic hurdles and the State is losing Rs 1.5 lakh daily for last four days.
A senior official said that this year there has been early bloom due to lack of snowfall in winter and above normal temperatures. He said that around 3 lakh Tulips are on bloom and in next 10 days around 10 lakh Tulips will be on bloom.
The officer said that they have written to the higher ups of the Floriculture department that the garden should be thrown open for tourists but so far there is no response.
“Normally, we open the garden for public when there is 15 percent bloom. But today we have over 30 percent bloom and the garden is yet to open. We are losing Rs 1.5 lakh per day for last 4 days”, he said.
Lot of tourists visit the garden to see Tulip bloom but they are not let in as the garden is yet officially closed. “We are here for last few days and we wanted to see the Tulip bloom but they say the garden has not opened yet. But I saw the pictures of bloom in the newspapers”, said Aditi Joshi from Delhi.
