To mitigate the suffering of the patients and the hardships to their immediate relatives in respect of visiting institutes and hospitals outside Jammu for specialised treatment and aftercare of the critical disease, after a long wait, a 100 bedded institute is approved to be opened at Government Medical College Jammu. It is a praiseworthy step of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare especially in respect of approving funds to the tune of Rs.43 crore for the same.
Needless to add, an institute of the sorts had already been sanctioned at Srinagar’s SKIMS Soura for which grants and funds to the tune of Rs.48 crore have already been released. The institute at Jammu is expected to have all services along with sophisticated and modern equipment as also up gradation of Pathology laboratory. It is hoped that the necessary and critical infrastructure would be provided to the institute to make it absolutely useful to the patients and there would be no shortage of specialist doctors and technicians about which proper planning and arrangements would be properly made.
