Srinagar, June 8:Srinagar and Jammu today witnessed scorching heat and recorded the hottest day of the season as the mercury touched 34.3 degrees Celsius in Srinagar and 41.6 degrees Celsius in Jammu respectively.
As per officials at the MeT, the day was also hottest after June 3, 2018, in Srinagar when the mercury touched 35.0 degrees Celsius.
The highest maximum temperature was recorded as 35.0 Degrees Celsius on 3 June 2018 in Srinagar. Officials said that today was the hottest day in three years and today’s maximum temperature in Srinagar was recorded by 6.4 Degrees Celsius above normal.
As per the data available with the Meteorological department, Srinagar has recorded the hottest June day ever on the 29th day of the month in 1978 when the mercury touched 37.8 Degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, the heatwave also prevailed in Jammu after it recorded a maximum of 41.6 degrees Celsius, around 2 degrees above normal.
Also, Qazigund recorded 33.4 degrees Celsius and Pahalgam 29.4 degrees Celsius while Kokernag witnessed 32.0 degrees Celsius.
As per officials, the border town Kupwara recorded a maximum temperature of 34.0 degrees Celsius. World-famous skiing and tourist resort Gulmarg in north Kashmir was the coldest place in Valley, recording 25.0 maximum of Degrees Celsius.
The Weatherman said that mainly dry and hot weather is going to continue across J&K.
