JAMMU, May 19: Satguru Partap Singh (SPS) Hospitals, Ludhiana has completed three years in kidney transplant programme since its inception.
Over the past three years many patients have undergone a successful kidney transplant surgery and now enjoying an improved and better quality of life.
The team comprises of Dr Vikas Kumar, Senior Consultant, Kidney Transplant Surgery and Urology, Dr Rahul Kohli, Senior Consultant and Coordinator, Department of Nephrology and Dr Bakshish Singh, Senior Consultant, Department of Nephrology has given new lease of life to many patients suffering from end stage kidney disease.

Dr Vikas Kumar, Transplant Surgeon shared that many patients never come to transplant institute with the myth that they can live forever on dialysis but this is simply not the case. Dialysis can cause serious health problems including Anaemia, Bone diseases, High blood pressure, Heart diseases, Nerve damage and infections. As a result the average life expectancy for patient on dialysis is generally 5 Years. On the other hand, patients who receive kidney transplantation typically live longer and healthy life, he stated.
