AtulAtul Pangotra is J&K’s ace Taekwondo player, who started playing Taekwondo in 1988 under the supervision of his coach and father of Taekwondo in J&K, Late Vishal Sharma at Raghunath Temple Jammu. He belongs to a middle class family. He played first National in 1991 and lost in QFs and won first medal for the State in 1994. From 1991 to till date he participated in all nationals and won many medals for the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Atul won more than 50 medals for the State. He won first gold medal in senior category for State of Jammu and Kashmir in 2008 and clinched gold in Nationals for consecutive 8 years. He won bronze medal in Commonwealth Games and the only medalist from the State of Jammu and Kashmir in the event Taekwondo. He is first NIS coach in the game of Taekwondo for the State. He represented India in 5 World Championships and 2 Asian Championships as a player, a total of 7 International Championship as a player. He got Scholarship from World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) in 2008 and 2011 and IS THE recipient of State Award and Sher-e-Kashmir Award.
In addition to this he has produced 12 international players who represented India, and five among them have been awarded with Sher-e-Kashmir Award. Atul also represent India as a referee in more than 15 International events. He is serving as a Physical Education Teacher in the Department of Youth Services and Sports, J&K.
