Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Aug 11: Downgrading of J&K State into two Union Territories is a matter of great concern and award of punishment to the people of Jammu province against their continued loyalty towards the nation and working as a bridge between the volatile Kashmir and Indian Union.
This was the collective opinion expressed by intellectuals belonging to various fields in an interactive session organized today by All Jammu and Kashmir Kissan Union (AJKKU).
“The people of Jammu province always stood like a rock against aggression by Pakistan and long drawn insurgency, provided full support to those displaced in 1947, 1965, 1971, 1990 and during three decades of long militancy. Despite facing pains of discrimination since 1975 and suffering the wrath of ”B’ class citizen treatment in their own country, they were reasonably expecting a fair deal but it is unfortunate and bad luck of the people of this Pradesh that they are dealt with such casual approach and given the lower status of UT.
The speakers questioned will the mighty dispensation reconsider the decision to restore to the people of Jammu province at least their existing position they were holding or will be happy with the existing deplorable situation and environment.
Those who attended the session include Gharu Ram (former Minister and president, All J&K Kissan Union), Advocate Ashok Kumar Sharma (former Legislator), Advocate Anil John, Jatinder Bhagat, Kamal Preet Singh, Advocate Abrar Ahmed Khan, Col BD Sharma, Hari Om Singh (former District and Session Judge), Vinod Sharma (social and political activist), Madan Lal Sharma, SRD Singh, Jagan Nath, R Baldev Singh, BC Raina, Lalit Sharma, Sanjay Sandhu, Advocate Nakul Sharma, Saudagar Gupta, Mahesh Kumar, Jang B Sharma, Parvinder Singh and Advocate Zahid Sarfraz Malik.
