KATHUA, Dec 11: A speedy bus on the Capt. Sunil Choudhury road hit a woman and crushed her to death on the spot and injured three children who were standing on the side of the road. The injured and deceased women were shifted to District Hospital Kathua. The three children are under treatment there.
The accident took place when the family members were standing on the side of the road and were keeping some items on the motorcycle to attend ceremony. Suddenly a speedy bus bearing registration No JK02BG 3355 hit the bike and all the family members fell down and got injured. The women fell down on the road and bus crushed her to death and other members had narrow escape but were also injured. The bus driver and his associates ran away from the scene after leaving bus and injured on the spot.
The local people rushed to the site for rescue operations. A police team also reached on the spot and shifted the injured to hospital. The deceased woman was identified as, Jyoti Devi 28, W/o Ashok Kumar resident of Basholi. The injured children were identified as Manvi ,7yrs , Chandan ,12yrs sons of Ashok Kumar and Ankush, son of Bachan Lal R/o Bishnah. Police has registered a case in this connection under the relevant section and started manhunt to nab absconding driver.
The local people raised protest against the police and Traffic Department and blocked the road in protest of rash driving on the road and failure of check on such drivers. The locals asked the Administration to stop the movement of buses on city road as routine accidents are taking place on busy city roads. The road is so narrow for movement of heavy vehicles in this busy area.
