JAMMU, Aug 6: District administration today launched special drive against use of polythene bags, which is causing environment related hazards.
The drive was launched on the directions of Deputy Commissioner, Simrandeep Singh and under the direct supervision of Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC), Anuradha Gupta. The drive is part of the ongoing Swachh Bharat Mission.
A team consisting of Tehsildar, Health Officer of Jammu Municipal Corporation and District Officer, Pollution Control Board was instructed by the ADDC to check the illegal use of polythene.
The team visited various areas including Maheshpura, K C Morh, Bakshi Nagar, Indira Chowk and New Plots and seized 13 kilograms of polythene bags from the traders. The team also imposed fine to the tune of Rs 1500 on those who were illegally using polythene bags.
It is pertinent to mention here that Minister for Rural Development, Haq Khan launched “My Village, My world” scheme under Swachh Bharat Mission on August 4. He has also given instructions to implement the ban on polythene in villages as well as urban areas as the ban in isolation will serve no purpose.
