JAMMU, May 26: Former PCC president Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz, has said that All Party delegation should visit J&K to take stock of the situation arising after September 2014 floods and know ground reality with regard to the condition of Kashmir food victims.
“In a letter to AICC president Sonia Gandhi, I have strongly solicited her support to my urgent proposal that she should take initiative to constitute All Party delegation to pay a visit to Kashmir and get to know better the plight of victims of the devastating floods of September, 2014,” Soz said.
“ I explained to her that a vast majority of the victims, particularly the lower middle class and BPL families had not insured their properties and they are the worst sufferers today. I further brought to her notice that the Omar Govt had assessed the losses and demanded a relief package of Rs 44,000 crores and subsequently, the Mufti Syeed Govt had subjected the package to a meticulous scrutiny and found the figured correct. The present Govt also has not succeeded to persuade Modi Govt to provide relief,” he added.
The former PCC chief pointed out that many Central Govt agencies had independently assessed the flood situation and made recommendations, but nothing worked with Modi Govt so far. It was also brought to the notice of Congress president that the common people in Kashmir describe Modi Govt’s attitude as blatant discrimination against the flood sufferers and violation of human rights. Modi Government had added insult to the injury by not allowing international development and aid agencies such as Oxfam; Islamic Relief World Wide; Save the Children; US Aid; Christian Aid; Action Aid to offer relief to victims of the worst floods in Kashmir, Prof Soz added.
