KATHUA , May 26: The irate people of Tara Nagar, Ward No 13 Kathua blocked the Jammu -Pathankote National Highway for one hour at Patli More today to protest against the water scarcity in the area.
There was a huge traffic jam on the Highway and the commuters had to face a tough time in this sweltering Summer heat. The protestors including men, women and children raising slogans against the Government demanded immediate restoration of water supply to the area.
However, later on the assurance of Dy SP HQ, Kathua Ajay Kumar Sharma who along with senior engineers of PHE visited the spot the people lifted the blockade of NH.
Earlier the protestors blocked the Kathua-Pathankote road for one hour but as there was no response from the officers, the irate mob ran towards the NH and blocked it for one hour. This created a law and order problem as there was a huge jam and the officers rushed the spot to pursue the mob to lift the blockade.
The water and power crisis in Jammu especially in Samba and Kathua districts has led to law and order problem but the Government at the helm of affairs has failed to take the cognizance of the same, said one protestor Madan Lal.
He said the people in his locality are without water supply for a week but there is no body to listen the same forcing people to come to streets.
