RAJOURI, Jan 20: To aware the refugees about their genuine rights and apprising them of the latest developments vis-à-vis redressal of their grievances, S O S International – an organization for PoK Displaced Persons, organized a grand rally at remote village Keri in border district Rajouri.
During the rally, S O S International highlighted plights of the community and also adopted some resolutions, which included demand for a uniform policy for all the displaced people in Jammu and Kashmir, clarity on the status of PoK, giving reserved Assembly seats of PoK to the members of displaced community etc.
While addressing the gathering, Mr Chuni accused the BJP-led Central Government of complicating the issue of PoK displaced persons instead of solving the same. He alleged that an un-necessary controversy was being allowed to create on the issue of settlement of PoK displaced persons by mixing it up with the State citizenship rights to the West Pakistan refugees.
Alleging discrimination with PoK displaced persons, the S O S International chairman demanded a uniform policy for all displaced people, including KPs. He lamented that despite promising settlement of the PoK refugees/displaced persons in its election manifesto, the BJP-led Central Government was relying on the same bureaucracy, which deprived the displaced community of its genuine rights for the last more than 60 years. “The Kashmir Cell in the Ministry of Home Affairs also takes care of only KPs whereas more attention was needed for PoK refugees,” he said and alleged that the community was being treated as football by the Centre as well as the State, which are not serious to address the genuine grievances of the people.
Others who addressed the gathering, included Yash Paul, Rajinder Kumar Sharma, Darshan Lal, Badri Nath, Balwant, Capt Ravinder, Pt Lekh Raj, Vijay Guru, Sat Paul, Yougal, Sat Paul Ex-Sarpanch, Kewal Sharma, Sharda Devi, Yogesh Sharma, Satya Devi, Lalit Kumar, Roshan Lal, Sanjay Kohli, Rakesh Sharma and Bishan Saroop.
